Import contacts and price book items from a CSV

WebZaras appUpdated September 14, 2026

Existing customers or a catalogue come into Zaras through a four-step guided CSV import: choose the type, upload the file, map its columns, review and import. Importing only ever adds new records — nothing you already have is changed or removed.

Open SettingsData import on the web; in the Zaras app it is Data Import. Importing contacts needs Manage business settings, price book items Manage financial settings, and on the web the page only appears for members with the latter. If you cannot see it, ask an owner or admin to grant it to your role.

Step 1 — What are you importing?

Pick Contacts or Price book; run the wizard once per type.

Step 2 — Upload your CSV file

Press Choose file. The first row must be your column headers. A spreadsheet picked directly is refused: This doesn't look like a CSV file. In Excel or Sheets, use File → Save as (or Download) → CSV, then choose that file.

Step 3 — Map your columns

We matched what we could. Anything left on Ignore will not be imported. For each column pick the Zaras field it becomes, or Ignore. Contact fields include First name, Last name, Company, Email, Phone, Address line 1, City, State, ZIP and Notes; price book fields Name, Unit price, Unit cost, Item type, Category, Taxable and Description. Every contact needs at least one of: first name, last name, company, email or phone. Every item needs a name and a unit price. Everything else is optional. Unit cost is offered only to members with View cost & profit.

Step 4 — Review and import

The preview marks every row OK, Duplicate or Skipped, and says why a row is left out:

  • Already in your contacts (same email or phone) or Already in your price book (same name) — a duplicate, skipped so nothing doubles up.
  • No first name, last name, company, email or phone — can't tell who this is, Missing a name, a price that is empty or not a number, or an unknown item type — the row shows the exact problem.

Import anyway brings a skipped row in regardless. Nothing is written to your workspace until you press import. — the import button carries the row count. Afterwards the page reads Imported; sending the same file again reports Already imported — no new rows were added. In a very large workspace duplicates are checked against the first few thousand contacts only, and the preview says so when it applies.

After the import

Imported contacts appear in Contacts straight away; imported items appear in the price book. A category named in the file is matched to an existing one; if it does not exist yet the row says so and the item lands without a category, so create the category first if you want it filed.
